Having grandchildren can sure come in handy!

Scooter's disease: Foot in Mouth disease

Another one that happened as it reads,
except Scooter was one of the guys at college!
The same episode relieved my son, Tom,
of his belief in Santa.

It's that time again

Another Christmas is upon us, are you ready?
I'm not.

Historical re-enactment

Sometimes history can be ugly, but, come the sunshine it will disappear
as though it were made of the softest sn-

See you Thursday!

There's no business like snow business

Since I am only posting once a week
I thought I'd post the ones that are going into the paper for the holidays.
Since Thanksgiving is a week from today and the next scheduled strip
will appear on that day, I will post the one from last week's edition today
and the one that appears in today's paper, I will post tomorrow.
So, now that everyone is thoroughly screwed up and
I have made my intentions as clear as mud, read and enjoy.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

We interrupt this posting...

Due to circumstances beyond our control,
additions to The Grand Life will be reduced to weekly postings,
unless I can think of something profound to say.
I don't see that happening, after all, who goes to a
cartoonist's blog for words of profound wisdom.
We will see what the brain fairy drops off.

Parental wire tapping

This is something I've always wanted to do
but never did because I was afraid of what I might hear.

Like sand through the 3 minute egg timer

When the ideas become hard to come by,
there is always my children and grand children
who come to the rescue, as in this case.
Thank you Tracy, for the phone call.

Taking a calculated risk

I use to pride myself on being on top of all the newest technology.
My family would always call and let me know
they needed me to set their VCRs.
The cartoon below is closer to the truth than I would like to admit.

Seriously, I can't even get the counter to work on this site.

Aaaahhhh yes, therein lies the fate
of our space program!
He could be a future astronaut!
It's not like it's rocket scienc- oh, wait a minute, never mind!

Fire escape threat thwarted

I can read the headlines now,
"Thousands killed in fire at Walmart when the fleeing crowd
found their escape blocked by two old ladies talking"!
I really liked Violet's comment.
(I couldn't find "thwarted' in the dictionary, so I guessed)

A painful turn of events.

Just to make it clear, this is not based on an actual event,
but, since everyone in the cartoons are based on real live people,
I only used Tom and Christine because
they are too far away to hurt me.
Tune in next week boys and girls to see what Christine cuts up of Tom's!

Hanging at a Halloween party

Evidently Scooter's costume was a knockout!

The Grapes of Wrath..revisited

Seems like only yesterday that she didn't
want Mom or Dad to do anything for her.
All we heard was, "I'm a big girl! I can do it myself!"
Aaahh, for the return of those days!
Seems the older they get the more dependent they become!
Believe you me, when I turn 100 I intend to get even.

Nothing to sneeze at

Wait a minute!
Swanky restaurants don't have sneeze guards on their salad bars??
Every Golden Corral I've ever been in does!

Lost in the Library

To be honest, I never could deal with the
Dewey Decimal System either.

Even teachers can learn something in school

This sequence is based on an incident that
happened to a teacher my oldest
daughter, Tracy, was assisting.
Had to use it!

A walk in DUUH park

Sometimes the old boy can be so dense
it's amazing he fathered 1 child let alone 3!

Just so you know his denseness is based in reality,
a few years ago, June 1969 to be more precise,
when I was a young man, the beautful young lady
I was with suggested we go to the bedroom,
to which I replied, "why?".
There was no return engagement.

Violet slaps the monkey (so to speak)

She should use a mirror next time.
Less abusive.

Like shoveling sand against the tide.

Poor Violet.
I guess its like trying to patch
the Great Salt Flats with a pint of putty.

The Right to Privacy - An alternate P.O.V. :

While anyone may think this cartoon is cute,
only someone who has walked a dog can appreciate it completely.

The art of compromise

True compromise is an art,
as you can tell George is no artist.
I was going to write that "George is no arteest", trying to be clever,
but figured someone would point out that I had misspelled "artist".
Turned out I was right..
spellcheck pointed out I had misspelled "artist".

A sure thing

I once had a garage like George's closet,
but it is easier to draw a closet full of stuff
than a large garage.
Lazy Tom

The Ultimatum

An expert in compromise,
George knows when to cave in and give up.

George's exotic tastes

George must hang with Andrew Zimmern too damn much!

Blogus Interruptus discontinuedus

I think every family has a closet, or drawer, like this.

Blogus interruptus

There appears to be a problem with my scanner so I am unable
to scan and post anything at the moment. I hope it won't take
much to fix the problem and, hopefully I'll be back soon.

Rock and Roll Violet!

Just goes to show Violet can go the distance.

Art imitates life..sometimes

The scariest thing about this cartoon is
that it is based totally on truth!
There is a commercial here that says those exact words.
That isn't the scary part. the scary part is
that the dialogue attributed to Scooter are the exact thoughts that
went through my mind when I first heard the commercial.
The saddest part is that they did not remain thoughts.
I actually said them..outloud!

A Scooter moment

Let's hope he never goes to work at Nasa.

A morning with George and Violet

Personally I'd rather have orange juice!

The impossible dream

When Breanna first read this particular cartoon she
just looked at me with a blank stare...
guess she didn't think it was funny!

Connor's Corner

Here's another drawing by that new artist in Mississippi!
Did I mention he is my Grandson???
Just in case I didn't..he is!!
I have a few more and I will post them occasionally, for you to enjoy!.

Cartooning: The next generation

While we were visiting our family in Mississippi, my grandson, Connor, sat next to me as I worked on my strip. I looked over and, to my surprise, saw he was working on one of his own!! That was really a unique experience I will treasure forever. Me and my grandson sharing a moment together. He just turned 9 and can draw circles around me when I was that age.

Better late than-blah-blah-blah!

If you can't have the look you like,
You've gotta like the look you have!

Better late than never. Continued

I think Elmo is cuter than Emo,
but I guess cute isn't the objective!

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Better late than never

The next several posts are out of sequence.
They should have appeared sometime back
as they deal with Breanna's turning goth,
which, by the way, has since passed.
I have recently got them back as they were elsewhere and
couldn't be located.

Mr. Harrison spoke the truth when he wrote and sang "Taxman",
and Mr. Grand speaks wisely!

Another secret uncovered

Don't you hate it when they get old enough to
discover the secret of your "wisdom"?

Gizmo's bark is definitely worse than his bite!

It is said that, "For all things there is a reason!"
Whoever said this never met Gizmo!

A word from the Scootmiester

You ever get the feeling that Scooter
lives in his own little world?

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

A day in the park

That's what I love about Violet,
She can laugh at herself!

Why God made Editors

To some of you this particular post may appear familiar, as well it should as it was originally posted on Monday, November 24, 2008. Unfortunately, when I sent it to the paper last week the editor noticed one comment, made in the second panel, was dated, and therefore shouldn't be printed. She sent it back.
After the initial embarrassment wore off I went back and checked the other cartoons and found several others that were in need of change. It taught me that it is a good idea, if I am going to deal with current events, to make sure that they are; 1. Current and 2. Proofread by someone other than me.
A person is never too old to learn.
Besides, the change made the cartoon usable any time.

Charley Brown in the 21rst century!!

I'm sure everyone, at one time or another, has felt this way.
But, in George's case, it is more truth than fiction!

Friday, August 21, 2009

Stick it in your ear!

Good old George, still kicken and screaming!

Thursday, August 20, 2009

A real con job

This cartoon is based on an actual story I read.

Sometimes its more than the truth that hurts!

This one hits closer to home than
I would like to admit!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

George finally arrives

Some people are brought into the current century
kicking and screaming.
Others voluntarily stumble through.
